Oscar Mayer will host an unprecedented race called the “Wienie 500” on May 23, before the traditional Indy 500. The competition will take place on the famous Indianapolis oval track and will feature six promotional vehicles shaped like hot dogs, the Wienermobiles.
In this special race, each Wienermobile will represent a different regional style of hot dog from the United States, such as the Midwest’s Chi Dog and the East’s New York Dog.
This event is part of the partnership between Oscar Mayer and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which designated the brand as the “Official Hot Dog” of the Indy 500. The cars will be decorated with special paint jobs and the drivers will wear customized uniforms.
The awards ceremony will be held at the “Wiener’s Circle” and instead of the traditional champagne or the famous Indy 500 milk, there will be a condiment spray to celebrate.
The race will be broadcast live on the Fox Sports app and on social media @INDYCARonFOX starting at 2 PM (Eastern US time). Additionally, fans can participate in a free contest promoted in partnership with DraftKings by answering questions about the race for a chance to win a $10,000 cash prize.
According to Oscar Mayer, at the Indy 500, more than 330,000 spectators consume nearly 30,000 hot dogs during the event.
